Disney Cruises From San Diego

disney cruise san diego 2023

All of the sailings include a scheduled stop on Disney’s private island Castaway Cay. Every detail was planned out so that all we had to do was ENJOY! The Woodlands has 151 parks and 220 miles of hike and bike trails, and is also known for its golf, corporate headquarters, schools, places of worship, shopping, dining, hospitality and healthcare. It's less than an hour's drive across Lake Pontchartrain - on the world's longest continuous bridge over water - to get to the New Orleans port. Southern Living recently named it a best small town in Louisiana. So if you cruise a lot, or plan to in retirement, being within driving distance of a major port can open up the world to you.

Itinerary

If you are taking a Disney cruise from San Diego, the closest and most convenient airport to fly into is the San Diego International Airport. It’s located just three miles northwest of Downtown San Diego, making it the ideal starting point for your voyage with Disney Cruise Line. You’ll most likely be flying into the city to reach your Disney cruise from San Diego (unless you’re driving). The good news is that San Diego International Airport (SAN) is easily accessible to the Port of San Diego. Here are some key things you should know about flying to San Diego for a Disney cruise.

Night Disney Magic at Sea Cruise from Melbourne

Our youngest child was 9 years old at the time of the cruise so he spent a fair amount of time in the Oceaneer Club and Lab – DCL’s kids club. One thing we loved about Disney Cruise Line is that kids as young as 8 are permitted to check themselves in and out of the clubs (with parental permission), so he could come and go as he pleased. We would get an automated message on the DCL app when he checked out so we knew of his whereabouts. By far the most popular and competitive shore excursion to book on a Disney Cruise for families is the Las Caletas Hideaway. This all day excursion goes to a private beach accessible only by boat filled with activities like ziplining, snorkeling, and a kids adventure park. A popular and quick DIY excursion that we did is getting aboard a glass bottom boat to cruise out to see the famed Cabo arch, El Arco.

Men are suggested to wear a tie and women, a dress or a pantsuit. On a seven-night cruise, there will be one "formal" night in addition to a semiformal night. The clothing requirements are actually the same for both formal and semiformal nights; the biggest difference is on formal night when the characters also dress up for photos. Itineraries departing from U.S. cities attract predominantly Americans.

All Itineraries

With dozens of different departure dates in 2024 and 2025, Disney cruises from San Diego offer plenty of choices for couples and families. Your dedicated Vacationeer will take care of every aspect of your cruise from San Diego. Once you choose your itinerary, your Vacationeer will ensure that every aspect of your cruise is booked properly and at the best price. With their expertise, your cruise will be customized to fit your preferences so that you can take full advantage of both land and sea activities. Disney's California cruises from are on the Disney Wonder, a ship built with families in mind. Dining options include the Animator's Palate main dining room, Beach Blanket Buffet, Carioca's, Parrot Cay, Triton's, Pincocchio's Pizzeria, and the adult-exclusive restaurant Palo.

Once a popular destination for stars, with streets named after Gene Autry, Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope, Dinah Shore and more, Palm Springs is less than 2.5 hours to the ports in San Diego, Los Angeles and Long Beach. Just north of Boca Raton is the smaller city of Delray Beach, Fla., where homes are much cheaper. Delray is also on the ocean, it has lakes and golf courses, and there's plenty to do, from wine tastings, festivals and cultural experiences to golf and other sports.

Day 3 – March 10, 2023 – Ensenada, Mexico

If you are arriving from the airport or a farther destination like we were, taxis and Ubers can drop you off steps from the building where you enter to have your cruise documentation checked to board. If you are driving in the same day, you need to arrange for parking otherwise on your own. The Port of San Diego keeps an updated list of long term parking options on its website. Some of these locations are within walking distance of the dock. The Disney Wonder will, however, return from Australia in March 2024.

I was put in touch with “DANA” and had the greatest experience of my life booking our family trip. Let’s be realistic Disney is expensive but Dana went out of her way to make sure we got everything we wanted for the best price possible. I HIGHLY recommend using Mouseketrips and if she is in your area “DANA”.You will definitely not be disappointed.

Night Bermuda Cruise from New York

San Diego’s Park Shuttle & Fly is best if you need longer-term parking for extended Disney cruises. The company offers a free shuttle service that runs 24/7 between this parking garage and the cruise terminals (located 2.8 miles away). The daily rate is quite affordable at $24.95 with their coupon. Some budget parking lots that offer shuttle service to the cruise port, while others require taxi or Uber service. A variety of family-friendly activities are available aboard Disney Wonder, including pools, water slides, Broadway-style shows, and character meet-and-greets. In addition, there are lounges, dining areas, spas, and fitness classes for adults.

They got in a few waterslide rides and jumps into the pool before it got to them. If you are flying in to SAN for a Disney Cruise, you likely will not need a rental car in San Diego. It’s a cheap and quick rideshare or taxi ride to much of the city. Or arrange a shuttle with your travel agent or Disney directly if you prefer a pre-booked option.

While Disney has an impressive track record of returning passengers, it also welcomes a large number (sometimes up to 50 percent of the total passengers) of first-time cruisers. Disney Magic deck plans are designed in a way that you never have to go far for food, drinks or entertainment. Cabins are spread over six of the 11 passenger decks, and you can find restaurants, bars and lounges on four others, including a number of them around the triple-deck Disney Magic atrium. Below you will find a breakout by ship, but this is a work in progress. I will be updating the website throughout the day as I load the sailings and upload the new itinerary maps. The best way to be alerted to updates is by following me on Twitter @TheDCLblog – I will tweet updates as they are posted.

Because we had breakfast and didn’t debark with the earliest of the self walk-off crowd, we were in for some lines. By that time, immigration and customs had a decently long wait in San Diego. It took us more than 30 minutes to debark and complete the necessary passport checks. This was more time than we experienced this year in Seattle coming off of a Celebrity Cruise to Alaska but ultimately quite doable. Just across the Sea of Cortez on the mainland of Mexico is Mazatlán, a stop on longer DCL San Diego sailings. A popular excursion there that only takes a limited amount of time and that can be DIYed on the cheap is climbing El Faro – a lighthouse on a hill overlooking the water with spectacular views.

The moral to the story is that I will be using Irene and Mouseketrips for every future Disney vacation going forward. I called these folks the first time and I guess they thought I wanted to plan a trip so I got a call back immediately. Once I explained that I didn’t want to travel, but that I wanted to be a travel agent I was told to call the original number back. I’ve done so 4-5 times and left 4-5 messages with no response. I understand if you don’t want to hire people, but just call back and let me know. I”m a Disney traveler and I really wanted to work with someone local, but I guess I’ll have to shop around.
